Mt. Zion Baptist Church has proudly served the rural community of Farnham (Richmond County) Virginia for over 150 years. We are a Christ-centered, Family-oriented, Mission-driven church equipping, empowering, and edifying one another and the families of the Northern Neck of Virginia, through worship, discipleship, fellowship, and Christian education.
Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Farnham stands on the motto: "The biggest little church in the Northern Neck, where everybody is somebody and Jesus Christ is all!".
Biographical Statement for Dr. Timothy Tee Boddie
The Reverend Dr. Timothy Tee Boddie currently serves a Pastorof Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Farnham, VA, and Project Executive at the Conference of National Black Churches in Atlanta, GA. Dr Boddie is also the immediate past General Secretary and Chief Administrative Officer of the Progressive National Baptist Convention in Washington, DC. Previously, he was the Director of the M.A.C.E. degree program and at Shaw University Divinity School in Raleigh, NC. Dr. Boddie is also a former senior pastor of the historic Friendship Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA, serving as only the sixth senior pastor in its illustrious 150-year history. He also served for two years as pastor of Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Robersonville, NC.
Prior toparish ministry, Dr. Boddie served for 11 years as University Chaplain and Pastor of the Memorial Church at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. As University Chaplain, Rev. Boddie performed in a dual role, as Campus Minister and as Executive Secretary of the nationally acclaimed Hampton University Ministers’ Conference. In 2007, Chaplain Boddie was elected to a one-year term as president of the National Association of College and University Chaplains, becoming the first African American from a historically Black university to serve in this capacity in the organization’s then 60-year history.
Born in Raleigh, NC, Dr. Boddie was reared in Newport News, VA, and is the product of its public schools. An honor graduate of Atlanta’s Morehouse College, Dr. Boddie majored in English at Morehouse and also holds a master’s degree from Stanford University. He pursued doctoral study in Theatre at New York University, and earned his doctorate degree in Religious Education from Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, VA, in 2003.
His multiple gifts as a preacher, teacher, administrator, pastor and author bespeak his commitment to excellence in ministry and education. These gifts have afforded him the opportunity of preaching and speaking in a wide variety of venues, writing numerous articles and editing a book, Wisdom of the Sages: Conversations with the ACD Vaughn Senior Statesmen of the Hampton University Ministers’ Conference 1996-2005, published in 2007, by UMI of Chicago.
A fourth generation Baptist preacher, Pastor Boddie served for six years as Associate Minister of the First Church of Newport News (Baptist), where his parents, the late Dr. and Mrs. Fred J. Boddie, Jr., served as pastor and first lady, respectively, for nearly 40 years.
Dr. Boddie is joyously married to Geulia (pronounced “Julia”) Diggs Boddie, a native of Franklin, VA, and magna cum laude graduate of both Fisk and Hampton Universities. They are the blessed and proud parents of two young adult children, Maya Jillian, a 2016 graduate of Hampton University, and T. Michael, a graduate of both the University of South Carolina and the University of Denver.
